Endler Ark’s sole purpose is to preserve the genetic purity of Poecilia Wingei as a species for future generations by maintaining breeding colonies of all color varieties collected in the wild.
Per square inch, Poecilia Wingei is arguably the most colorful, tropical fish in the world. Endler Ark educates enthusiasts to be master breeders of P. Wingei expecting they will maintain regional backup colonies to assist in preservation efforts. The Ark has collected pure-blooded breeding stock of over 35 color varieties of Endlers. All parental stock has been documented back to wild stock collected by Armando Pou and Phillip Voisin.
Since the ’70s, the distribution of pure-blooded Endlers has been hindered by lack of communication, improper categorization, and selfish interests. In wake of this most potential breeders could only purchase hybrids, mislabeled guppies, or only males with no breeding females. Breeders capitalized on the demand for real Endlers by supplying hybrids or small guppies all incorrectly sold under the name Endlers. Local fish stores, online auction sites small home breeders essentially use “Endler” for any small colorful guppy. To help correct this and supply growing demand Endler Ark registers customers as certified regional breeders in the Endler Breeder Association. Only through working together to fill supply for demand, defining the species, and education can we hope to save the genetics of Endlers for future generations.
Fast Shipping
Endler Ark uses expedited shipping for fish and live goods. Boxes are insulated, fish are sealed in breathable bags that are packed in insulation. Up to 72-hour heat packs are available based on what is best for our endlers.
If you do not receive the number of fish you ordered alive that number will be replaced if possible or the cost of the fish will be refunded. Shipping is non-refundable. We require visual, email documentation within 2 hours of delivery confirmation to process. Pictures should show fish in a sealed bag in the shipping box. Email your pictures to noah@endlerark.com.
Dry goods, books, and apparel are shipped with fish if possible. Ground shipping is used if they are shipped alone.
Endler Terminology
Parental stock for all of our Poecilia Wingei can be traced back to wild specimens collected by John Endler, Armondo Pou or Philippe Voisin. By ELBA definition, this makes all our endlers pure-bred. Endler Breeder Association identifies pure-blooded endlers using the location that wild specimens were collected from:
Pure Cumana Endler (those collected by John Endler and Armando Pou in the Cumana area of Venezuela)
Genuine Campona Endler (those collected by Phillippe Viosin and company in the Campona area of Venezuela)
Hybrid Endlers (Fish commonly mislabeled as endlers that are actually a hybrid cross between P. Wingei and any other live bearer) 99% of all endlers sold in the world are Hybrid Endlers
Following suit with the Endler Breeder Association, Endler Ark no longer uses ELBA letter classification system.

Endler Breeder Association
The EBA was founded to protect Poecilia Wingei from being lost to genetic dilution. The mission is to maintain genetically-pure Poecillia Wingei (endlers) from wild stock previously collected in the Cumana and Campona localities of Venezuela. As well as use excess stock of each color variety to supply regional enthusiasts to maintain as back up colonies.
Every purchase from Endler Ark adds buyers names to registry of backup breeders. Breeders receive an EBA card so they can supply Endlers locally as a registered EBA Breeder. Through this chain, thousands of pure breeding colonies are secured to maintain genetics of Poecilia Wingei while suppling demand from other enthusiasts. Members of EBA also receive discounts and other membership privileges on the Endler Ark website.
The Nuts and Bolts
In 2015, we diverted resources of 35 years breeding Pterophyllum Scalare (Angelfish) to concentrate on endlers (Poecilia Wingei). Endler Ark was established solely to protect and store the genetics of real endlers. Based in California, Endler Ark maintains a breeding platform for over 30 color varieties of documented pure-blooded Poecilia Wingei. Maintaining a minimum of 2 healthy colonies of each. We operate year-round and seasonally using a series of filtered outdoor ponds. Our fish rooms total nearly 1000 sg ft. with 50 custom-filtered, glass tanks (10-180 gallons) specialized for endler use. We maintain 40 proprietary-designed, covered breeder containers (10-40 gallons), and 300 fully-automated, one- and two-gallon, sealed, clear containers. Staffed 16 hours a day. Our Ark BioRite warehouse produces a proprietary engineered/formulated line of dry goods ranging from food and water conditioners, as well as a healthcare line specific for Endlers.
