Symptoms

  • swollen gills are usually caused by ammonia poisoning in water

  • fish will scratch against objects and appear listless.

  • a grayish film may form on the body from low oxygen retention

  • rapid breathing in fish; accompanied by gasping at the surface of the water,

  • gills undergo severe damage, leading to suffocation and death

Organic treatment of fish

  • immediately do a 75% water change (use de-chlorinated water)

  • add extra air stones temporarily to the tank

  • let the temperature drop to 72 degrees

  • if gills are too damaged the fish may die

Medicinal treatment of fish

  • immediately treat the entire tank with full dose Ark BioRite Total Water Conditioner this will neutralize ammonia instantly

  • do a 50% water change (use de-chlorinated water

  • add extra air stones temporarily to the tank

  • dose tank with Ark BioRite Stress Relief to aid fish in the repair of slime coat and gill lining.
